| Rose Colonna
An Armonk resident, Rose began Tasteful Treats and Treasures Gift Baskets, an internet based company in 2002 and was selling candy topiaries. While in Borders one day, she found the book, 'How to Build a Home Based Gift Basket Business' and the rest is history. The most important advice Rose received was “Be passionate about what you do and be willing to step out of your box”. It is the passion that is evident in the work that Rose and her staff, Heidi Lewis and Sue Cecchetelli, do that makes their gift baskets unique and creative while at the same time cost efficient. As far as the box goes – Rose have taken leaps and jumps and done things she never thought possible and have now have become second nature. Combining her passion, talents and over 20 years of corporate experience, Tasteful Treats and Treasures was selected as one of the Top 100 Gift Basket companies in America by Gift Basket Review and is located at 16 Banksville Ave in Bedford NY. | Sandee Martensen
In September of 2002, Sandee volunteered in the pediatric unit of a Westchester hospital. Her job was to assist families through the ordeal of a hospital stay. One day she entered a dark room in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and found a mom playing solitare near the bed of her critcally ill teen-aged son and offered a cup of tea. When the mom replied 'I would love that', it was a defining moment for Sandee. She then realized that there was nothing that could compete with the 'milk of human kindness'. By offering families treats from a cart decorated with pinwheels, Sandee gave these families chance to share their stories, their fears, and share a moment with someone who didn't want to speak about treatment, illness and hospitals. She managed to create lots of smiles. When the kids saw the pinwheels on the cart, they knew instantly that this was a happy visit and nothing to fear. The Pinwheel Project was born. In 2009, they are operating in 9 New York Area Children's Hospitals and offering 16 different programs ranging from the original cart to programs serving pediatric bone marrow patients, children receiving heart transplants, and families coping with the expense of long term treatment for their child. As a 20 year resident of Armonk, the support this town and surrounding communities has given to the Pinwheel Project never ceases to amaze Sandee. To volunteer and learn more CLICK HERE!
